Background

I am Lewis “Lew” Robbins,  Chief Financial Officer at Stonewall Memorial Hospital District in Aspermont, Texas.

I was originally offered the position on an interim basis, chiefly to prepare the hospital’s financial accounts for fiscal year-end and the subsequent financial audit. To accomplish this, I developed and implemented improved procedures and controls over record keeping and reporting.

Since I accepted the permanent position, I have greatly improved the accuracy and readability of internal financial statements for hospital management, the board of directors and department heads.

Initially, I performed all of my duties on site while my wife served as pastor of a nearby church. However, we have now relocated to Nashville, TN and I perform about 90% of my work remotely.

Before that, between mid-2012 and October 2014 I was the accounting manager at Stamford Memorial Hospital in Stamford, Texas. My duties included financial statement preparation for a nonprofit that operated the hospital and for the government under which the hospital was chartered. I was also responsible for oversight of balance sheet reconciliations, journal entry preparation, and closing procedures. In addition to the ongoing, periodic tasks, I often worked on special projects, including preparing operating budgets.

I am a Certified Public Accountant with a current Tennessee license and a Certified Fraud Examiner.

I take pride in providing timely, accurate, and useful information.

I began my accounting career as an Investigative Auditor (officially designated as a Legislative Auditor IV) for the Division of Municipal Audit, Office of the Comptroller of the Treasury of the State of Tennessee. My former work team is now the core of  the Division of Investigations. In all, I worked for the Comptroller for a few days short of 11 years.

I earned a Master of Accountancy from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. My area of concentration was information systems. As an undergraduate at the University of Wyoming, I majored in Mathematics and received a Bachelor of Science with Honor from the College of Education.

Before the move to Texas, I was the chair of the Website Committee and Webmaster for the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and held a seat on the chapter’s board of directors for 2011-2012. I was also the treasurer of the Wolverine Trail Homeowners’ Association from its inception until December 2011.

My site, lewrobbins.info, is intended to be more of an in-depth introduction than would be possible with a static resume or c.v.. The journal will allow me a more narrative form of communication and easy, frequent updates.
