I found this Fortune article today about the “side gigging” trend. The writer, Greg Waldorf, accurately explains that this is much more than Uber, although that is the most familiar example. Many people who write about the workplace expect that the trend will decline as the economy and job markets improve. Waldorf, on the other hand, thinks that the decrease will be much less noticeable as workers want additional options and greater control of their careers. I think that is a great thing. It is definitely the next direction that I would like to go, although I am still unsure of the specifics.
After my most recent move, I posted resumes with updated contact information to several online job boards. I received the usual calls that follow a fresh posting, mostly from people who want me to sell insurance. I also received a few inquiries that sounded sincere, but would most likely be a lateral move at this point. Mostly, though, I really like the work that I do now and the people that I work for. I don’t expect that I will be able to do it until retirement.
